DS : She said to me,”I have read this book.”
IS  : She said to me that she had read that book.

DS : The man says,”I need this book so much.”
IS  : The man says that he needs that book so much.


  • ·         Question

DS  : He asked me, “When will you go?”
IS   : He asked me when I would go.

DS  : They asked her,”Why didn’t you come yesterday?”
IS   :  They asked her why she hadn’t come the day before.


  • ·         Interrogative

DS  : He asked her,”Have you typed your paper?”
IS   : He asked her if she had typed her paper.

DS  : He asked me,”Can I borrow your pen?”
IS   : He asked me if he could borrow my pen.


  • ·         Imperative

DS  : He told me,”Drive carefully!”
IS   : He told me to drive carefully.

DS  : Mother said to me,”Don’t neglect your home work!”
IS   : Mother told me not to neglect my homework.
